One of my cousins is absolutely terrible with money.
She’s always calling family members asking to borrow cash.
And when I say “always,” I mean she’ll call you a thousand times just to ask for $20!
At this point, everyone in the family has her number saved under “DO NOT ANSWER.”
One day, she called me again.
“Hey, cuz! I got a shutoff notice for my electricity… and a repossession notice for my car. Can you help me?”
I said, “Of course! I’ll come by shortly.”
She sounded relieved.
“Oh, thank you! I knew I could count on you!”
About an hour later, I showed up at her house.
She opened the door with a huge smile…
Until she saw what I was carrying.
Two candles.
And my old 10-speed bicycle.
She stared at me.
“Cuz… what is THIS?”
I smiled.
“You said you needed help with the lights and the car, right?”
“Candles for the electricity…”
“And my bicycle for transportation!”
She slammed the door.
Funny thing is…
She hasn’t asked me for money since.
I guess I finally found the perfect financial advice:
“Help” doesn’t always have to come with cash!
