Prince William and Princess Kate have announced a breaking statement today after tragedy unfolded in Liverpool yesterday.
Almost 50 people were damaged on Monday after a car ploughed into Liverpool fans after a trophy parade in the city centre.
Police have arrested a 53-year-old white British man who they believe was driving the car down Water Street where the incident opened out. Four people are thought to still be “very ill” in hospital with serious injuries.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have now announced a statement that reads: “We are deeply saddened by the scenes in Liverpool yesterday. What should have been a joyful celebration ended with tragedy. Our thoughts are with those who were injured and to the first responders and emergency services on the ground. W & C.”
The statement happened at around the same time as a message was published by King Charles in Canada about the tragedy.
The monarch, 76, wrote: “My wife and I were deeply surprised and heartbroken to hear of the terrible events that took place in Liverpool on Monday.
“It is truly ravaging to see what should have been a joyous celebration for so many could end in such distressing circumstances. At this heartbreaking time for the people of Liverpool, I know that the strength of community spirit for which your city is renowned will be a comfort and support to those in need.
“Our prayers and deepest sympathy are with all those who have been affected, and my special gratitude goes out to the first responders, emergency services personnel and other individuals who rushed to the aid of the injured.”
North West Ambulance Service informed that 20 patients at the scene were cured for minor injuries yesterday and did not need hospital treatment.
A total of 27 patients were delivered to hospital by ambulance.
