A mailman discovered a shaky, handwritten letter addressed simply to “God.” Touched and curious, he decided to open it.
The letter was from Edna, an 83-year-old widow. She explained that her purse containing her last $100 had been stolen, leaving her with absolutely nothing to buy food for her upcoming Christmas dinner with friends. With no family left, she wrote, “You are my only hope, God.”
Deeply moved, the mailman rallied his coworkers. Everyone dug into their wallets and pooled together exactly $96. They slipped the cash into an envelope and anonymously mailed it to the sweet old lady, spending the rest of the day basking in a warm holiday glow.
A few days after Christmas, another letter addressed to God arrived from Edna. The excited postal workers eagerly gathered around to hear it read aloud.
It read: “Dear God, thank you so much for the wonderful gift! Because of your love, I was able to host a glorious dinner for my friends. P.S. — There was $4 missing. It must have been those thieving scoundrels at the Post Office!”
