We deem humans as the highest form of animal and yet – it appears that we still have a lot to learn about compassion from other animals. There’s a couple of viral photos of a duck keeping a puppy warm beneath its wings. Although several people have given the photos their own versions of a story, we investigated and found out that the photos were originally posted on a Chinese news platform.
The real story behind the viral photos goes like this: A stray puppy was looking for something to keep him warm from the cold on the side of the road. When a flock of ducks passed by, the pup ran towards one of the birds and hugged it. As if the duck knew what the pup needs, it wrapped its wings around the cold puppy to keep it warm. The user who shared the photo on the site said that the compassionate duck let the pup sleep under its wings and stayed motionless for fear of waking up the sleeping little pooch.

On the caption, the user also noted that ordinary animals typically do not do this to other young animals that are not their own. So when he saw this very rare scene, he made sure to capture the moment for the world to see. While it’s unusual for a bird to treat a different species of animal as its own child, a friendship between a duck and a dog is highly possible.
